Nitpicking here: RMAN does not support *any* tapes. There might be a library, you can link with RMAN, that allows DAT72 drives to be used by RMAN.

Contact a backup solutions software (yes, software!) vendor. They should be able to tell what hardware they support. Maybe vice-versa: the hardware (SUN) vendor can tell what software can be used with these drives.
