What configuration are you thinking about for dataguard?

If you set it so that each packet has to be acknowledged as received ( maximum protection ) then this will probably give you some huge issues unless you can tolerate this much delay in your applications ( unlikely but possible I guess ). A configuration of "maximum performance" writes redo locally then lets the appliction proceed.
