Sounds like they are trying to frame a business question in technology terms - perhaps as a [misguided] attempt to 'make you understand'.
You might want to dig deeper. Are they trying to avoid ODBC? or trying to avoid the possibility of connection (or maybe just updating) from Excel (or Word or MSAccess)?
Never the less - check the SYS_CONTEXT reference for the version you are using. I rarely use ODBC here & it's always a custom install/setup, so I can't test the actual impact for you. Therefore, feedback to the forum, when you do find your answer, will be appreciated.
