Could you also show us your sqlnet.ora
Presuming that NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN is not set (or is it set to XYZ.com
?), can you "tnsping mx2p"
The error "could not resolve" refers to not being able to find the
right entry in your tnsnames.ora.
Let's say that in sqlnet.ora, you have ...
NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN = world
Then your tnsnames.ora entries would look like;
MX2P.world=...
