It is far far less common for the chip manufacturers to optimize their instruction set for a specific O/S.

Therefore I question what you have written above. Could you provide a reference to back up the following statement please? Windows what, 3.1, NT, 200, XP, Me, Home, 32bit, 64bit ? And I am also unsure how your statement relates to Stephs original question on a certified O/S for Oracle. Could you elaborate?
