I dunno, but
https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:3:224193459298832873::::p3_database_id,p3_docid,p3_show_header,p3_show_help,p3_black_frame,p3_font:NOT,172785.1,1,1,1,helvetica
seems to indicate it is required. Somebody on oracle-l advocated
(convincingly, I thought) keeping the names between standby and primary
the same, but this appears to put a damper on that. In my experience
it's better to not fight the oracle way unless you are prepared to
reinvent the wheel.
See "Using Recovery Manager with Oracle Data Guard in Oracle Database
10g" in
https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:3:224193459298832873::::p3_database_id,p3_docid,p3_show_header,p3_show_help,p3_black_frame,p3_font:NOT,305809.1,1,1,1,helvetica
which points at
http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/pdf/RMAN_DataGuard_10g_wp.pdf
which mentions making backups from the new standby after switchover.
