IIRC, it was possible to create lobs in assm tablespaces since assm was 
introduced. If you enter "assm lob" in metalink, you will see a lot of 
issues ( mostly before 9.2.0.5 ) with ORA-00600, table corruption etc. 
etc., but technically it was possible.
