But, then with some meta-data statement applied to the table, the column-level would need to be a bit smarter and not allow it somehow. The thread is quite a theoretical one because nobody implements it, but if we are going to talk about a theoretical question, then columnar-level locking would hold loads of merit and statements that it is absurd are not accurate.
