I think oracle just externalized the _wait_for_sync as COMMIT_WRITE in
10gR2.


There is an additional difference in that _wait_for_sync in previous
versions applied to all transactions while now there is more
flexibility in that the behaviour could be controlled at the
transactional level using the appropriate COMMIT command.
