So to summarise:

* You can convert x to y using DECODE
* There is no reverse-decode function to convert y to x
* because that would be the same function, wouldn't it? DECODE converts
arbitrary expressions to arbitrary expressions. Perhaps you were thinking it only converted strings to numbers and not the other way around?
* Possibly there is more to this question to do with your front-end app.
