Single node or 100 nodes you MUST have shared storage which means you MUST use RAW devices, or OCFS, or another cluster file system such as NetApp's or Veritas.

OCFS is a file system. ASM is, in a sense, managed raw devices though ASM is much much more than just that. I'd suggest you read up on ASM at http://tahiti.oracle.com.
