Some sparse information in Metalink, such as Note:212381.1 "RAC: Cluster Node evicted due to Change of System Time in version 9i". Seems the problem is more likely to happen if one server has its time set backwards (to an earlier time).

This requirement (tight synchronization of system time for all servers in a RAC) does not appear anywhere that I could find in the RAC documentation (including, for example "OracleŽ Database Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Installation Guide 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Linux". I guess most of us don't notice it since the problem of server time synchronization was solved a long time ago.
