Yes, I didnt mention the detail in an attempt to make the question as simple as possible. You are correct in your assumption that both databases are on the same server.

This is an upgrade of a production 8.1.7 database to a 10g installation on the same machine. I dont want to upgrade the 8.1.7 database inplace as it serves as my 'reversion plan'. I've created the new 10g database and want to get everything from 8.1.7 into 10g. Use level schema exports imply me having to do all the other system stuff up front unless I'm mistaken, that is create users, create roles, grant privs etc. Am I wrong ? It seems like a lot of work with the potential for human error (my typos etc).
