I am not a lawyer either. However, there is plenty of information
available, such as
http://www.dol.gov/esa/regs/compliance/whd/whdfs23.htm
and even http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eight_hour_day#United_States .
The key phrase for "Computer Professionals" is "exempt," which of
course means exempt from anti-slavery laws
http://www.dol.gov/elaws/esa/flsa/screen75.asp .
This might explain some of the bizarro behavior of HR professionals. Some companies have burned their sensitive nether regions on this stuff. http://www.wal-martlitigation.com/currentd.htm
I haven't had a salaried job since the last century. Seems companies would rather pay me more for the same work. Makes senseless cents to me, I guess.
