Why would you even consider Veritas? It costs more money, introduces another vendor into what is already complex technology, provides far less functionality than ASM (for example no i/o balancing). Why?

A file system provides what value? A warm fuzzy feeling that you can "see" file names? ASM does too. Get over it. ;-)
