Alternative to listener service?

using oracle 9i on win 2000 - my anti-virus software is Panda 2005 security

The AV seems be causing a problem - trying to open a connection to the db using toad & the listener service generates errors (which of course you can't see anywhere!) & stops the service (sent 27 emails to Panda who've have ignored every single one & win my vote hands down for the worse support from any company on the web!) - yep I could use another AV but stupidly took out a 3 years sub with & had no idea how bad they were!

Anyway, is there an alternative to using the Listener service?

any help (in a thicky language as possible!), links would be appreciated?
