I work with DB2, Oracle, and other databases. I have also hired many DBA's that work on both databases, as well as other databases. Some of the hires were newbie's that needed training, and others were experienced.
The gist of my point is that the OP obviously did not have the skills to be an Oracle DBA, but wanted to know what the job what like before he decided to pursue obtaining the necessary skills and make it a career.
