version of database?
have you analyzed what is different -- off by a byte or total garbarge?

http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p=4950:8:::::F4950_P8_DISPLAYID:6379798216275#19264891198142 shows what I've found to be the "neatest" way to get the blob out -- ftp.
