Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Re: Oracle and Donald Rumsfeld
My error,
Don's email about this forum came at the end of a sequence of email messages about the Rumsfeld article - so I assumed it was a thread on the same topic. However the topic is titled:
Do single-user scripts "prove" Oracle Performance?,
but the first item on the list is largely about
Empirical DBAs vs. Research DBAs;
then ends with the question:
So, do SQL*Plus scripts accurately reflect real-world Oracle behaviour, or do you need full-blown multi-user benchmarks?
It may be a little hard to follow which of the three implied discussions you are supposed to follow. But I liked Mike Ault's item (following the Empirical/Research thread) that points out that research starts with empiricism (i.e. you look at what's happening, and make a guess at a theory to explain it - then comes the research to check if your theory is correct)
I won't be replying to the thread, as it requires me to create an account - and I just don't bother with sites that require a user/password set. (OTN being the only exception).
