I agree, except to point out, how do you know it is valid? <rant> I have a dim view of modern hardware, as you might notice. I always thought that hardware would evolve to be as solid as the telephone - and now, not only has that not happened, but telephones have devolved (in reliability). Harumph. </rant>

I'd go beyond that, since I've seen RMAN be more than a little confused about how old stuff has to be. But then again, you use more modern stuff than I. Even so, I've still found practical value in having a fairly large lag time when deleting arcs, you just never know what will be thrown at you. Any time you move or copy something, there's risk - that's why so much PC software gets corrupted, copying stuff back and forth unnecessarily - and I've seen situations where a standby gets hosed, not having to get the arcs and maybe a backup off the tape which turns out to be also hosed, is a Good Thing (TM).
The real important point is that redundancy is not to be minimized!
