There are, however, some limitations when using RMAN without the recovery catalog. The following operations are not supported without the recovery catalog:

• Using automated RMAN scripts for executing routine backup operations
• Recovering a tablespace to a particular point in time through RMAN operations
• Taking incremental backups that save data changes at the block level
• Recovering the database when the control file doesn't reflect the current structure of the Oracle database
