this supports use of more than one mailhost, so that if one mail server is currently unavailable, the message will still get through.

10g-specific.
sure would be nice to include a "limit" clause in terms of a max number of attempted connections per second. I don't think that it would be very difficult for an app code mistake to turn into a DOS of a mail server.
