How to create ASM instance outside of DBCA

Version Oracle 10.1.0.3 on Redhat Linux 9



Went to create a ASM instance outisde of DBCA. Cannot find any
documentation.




I did following:



Setup a minimal init.ora file with INSTANCE_TYPE=ASM



Issue:


startup nomount pfile=init.ora


-- instance +ASM starts without errors



Issue:


create database "+ASM";


-- get error



ORA-15000 Command disallowed ..



Can someone point me to any documenation on how to create
ASM instance outside eof DBCA,
