xmlgen and pl/sql in 10g

I am considering using XMLGEN, XMLDOM etc, for pulling data from database as XML data and using XSLT to show the data on a web application. Is any one using XMLGEN in production environment? Is using these packages better than any other tools out there? Are there any performance benefits to using XMLGEN? Also can I do complex joins etc. using XMLGEN package?
