I installed Oracle 8i on Windows 2000, and tried to create a tablespace for a database I created, using a script as follows:

sqlplus SYSTEM/password_at_DEVTEST @doCreateSpace.DEVTEST.IMDIS.sql

and got the error:

ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor

Here is the tnsnames.ora file on server.

DEVTEST.UNHQ.UN.ORG =
  (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = DPCNY)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = DEVTEST)

    )

Here is the listener.ora file on server.

Here is the sqlnet.ora file on server.

NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN = unhq.un.org

SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS) NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, ONAMES, HOSTNAME) The OracleServiceDEVTEST and OracleOraHome817TNSListener were all started. I tried tnsping DEVTEST, and it looks OK.

Attempting to contact (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=DPCNY)(PORT=1521)) OK (120 msec)

I also tried:

sqlplus SYSTEM/password_at_DEVTEST.UNHQ.UN.ORG @doCreateSpace.DEVTEST.IMDIS.sql

and got the same error.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
