Thanks for the link. Actually , i was follwong the instructions from http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/hunter_rac.html for a setup with raw devices.

I am stuck at the point where the database software is to be installed, the problem being that the RAC option will not become available. (The oracm is running on all nodes though.)
