Using Oracle 8.1.7 Personal Edition on Windows XP

Problem 1) When my McAfee firewall is running, I can't connect to Oracle with any tools, such as DBAStudio.or TOAD. Oracle continues to run in the background, but I can't connect to it. If I turn off my firewall, the tools work again.

Problem 2) Trying to shut down and restart Oracle from DBAStudio - shutdown works fine, restart fails when I try from DBAstudio. Using Windows Services Manager I can restart. But thaqt means I can only have it shutdown or open, I cant have the database started or mounted.

Has anyone else had either problem? causes and solutions, anyone? Received on Sun Jun 20 2004 - 11:09:27 CDT
