I've tried system managed, and 512Mb and 1Gb

Yes, I found a note that you can't do this anyway (dbca within installer) on a 256Mb machine.
I can get the install to work without creating a db, but I still get the same java error from dbca when run standalone after an ok installation.

I'm reluctant to wipe these machines, since they were clean to start with and I'm sure the error would remain since I wouldn't be doing anything different. I just can't believe this isn't a common problem since it happened on both stadard, clean, patched PCs.

I think I'll have to give up on it, at least for now.
