Oh, I don't think it's any great secret or surprise. Quite a lot of Oracle technology since, I dunno, the 8i time frame has Rdb antecedents. RMAN definitely is one of them. I remember teaching 8.0 backup and recovery to one of the Rdb guys in Sydney, who was feeling a bit nervous as to the future viability of his career, and the sour looks he was giving me throughout were something to behold! I asked him what was wrong, and he said our (i.e., Oracle's RDBMS') backup and recovery techniques were "awful primitive". I think he would be happier today!!
If I'm not much mistaken, I thought the locally-managed tablespace bitmap concept was also an Rdb thing. ??
