There are numbers published by someone on market share per operating system. I don't know if they are from Gartner or someone else.
I still don't understand the relevance of the market share argument is, assuming that the market share is large enough to guarantee the product will around for a long time. Obviously this is not an issue with DB2, Oracle, or SQL Server, but might be for Sybase and Informix.
The fact is that Oracle was first to market (of the top 3) with a good product on midrange operating systems. They built a large installed base because of that. The Oracle market share has been dropping, especially on new installations, as MS and IBM have improved their DBMS products. Received on Fri Jun 04 2004 - 17:50:53 CDT
