If you installed Oracle most likely the database exists with multiple schemas.

My feeling is that unless you want to waste a huge amount of time and have a learning experience that will make you dangerous rather than capable you should read those 1000 pages.

And start with Tom Kyte's book "Expert one-on-one Oracle."
