fair enough. the old laptop is a dual boot.
8.1.7, 9.2 and 10.1 homes in WinXP pro.
9.2 and 10.1 homes in RHEL 3.0 ES.

that is mighty useful information, much appreciated. the only thing I did with isqlplus in the 9.2 release was to disable the service.
