I am no expert in make files, by any stretch. As I undestood from other posts, you may have some difficulties compiling Oracle executables on certain Linux platforms. You could work around those, but you'd have to know how to make sure that all of your libraries are up to date with what Oracle expects, etc. Do you have any interest in trying other flavors of Linux?
