Looking back through the make.log, looks like I had similar errors on ctxhx on the initial 9.0.2.1.0 install, which I ignored. Then the 9.2.0.4 patchset updated it, and it subsequently all linked OK.
Vanilla Slackware 9.0, was the first thing installed on it actually, after adding the accounts and altering kernel parameters. It's just a test box for playing with; everything I've tried so far works, but there may still be things lurking that don't as it's not a supported environment.
