Overview \par
======== \par
\par
The following list describes the compatibility of the Oracle server products \par
(Oracle8, Oracle8i and Oracle9i) with the Windows NT Intel operating system. \par
For information relating to Windows 9.x refer to [NOTE:65995.1], Windows 2000 \par
refer to [NOTE:77627.1] and Windows XP / 2003 refer to [NOTE:161546.1]. \par
\par
Oracle does not certify these products against service packs, thus all service \par
packs are implicitly supported. However, Oracle may require a minimum service \par
pack build for certain products which would be documented in the accompanying \par
release notes. \par
\par
If you encounter a problem internal to Oracle software, Oracle Support \par
Services will raise a BUG for you with the appropriate Oracle development \par
group. For more detailed information about Oracle Database and Networking \par
patches please refer to [NOTE:161549.1]. \par

Overview \par
======== \par
\par
The Windows 2000 operating system is the next generation of the Windows NT \par
series of operating systems. The user interface is a combination of the \par
Windows NT / Windows 98 environments and internally many changes have been \par
made to strengthen its reliability, availability, scalability and end-to-end \par
management features. \par
\par
There are five separate editions of Windows 2000 : \par
\par
Windows 2000 Professional Edition \par
Windows 2000 Server Standard Edition \par
Windows 2000 Advanced Server \par
Windows 2000 Datacenter Server \par
Windows 2000 MultiLanguage Edition - MLE \par
\par
The following article describes the compatibility of the Oracle Database \par
server products with the Windows 2000 operating system. For information \par
relating to Windows 9.x refer to [NOTE:65995.1], Windows NT refer to \par
[NOTE:45997.1] and Windows XP / 2003 refer to [NOTE:161546.1]. \par
\par
The following article covers 32-Bit support, for information about Oracle's \par
64-Bit Windows support refer to [NOTE:236183.1]. \par
\par
\par
Microsoft Service Pack and Oracle Patch Set Support \par
=================================================== \par
\par
Oracle does not certify Database Server products against service packs, thus \par
all service packs are implicitly supported. However, Oracle may require a \par
minimum service pack build for certain products which would be documented in \par
the accompanying release notes. \par
\par
If you encounter a problem internal to Oracle software, Oracle Support \par
Services will raise a BUG for you with the appropriate Oracle development \par
group. Oracle Patch Sets can be applied to all editions of the database \par
(Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition or Personal Edition) any variation to \par
this will be documented in the accompanying readme file. For more detailed \par
information about Oracle Database and Networking patches please refer to \par
[NOTE:161549.1]. \par
\par
\par
Oracle Server Product Support \par
============================= \par
\par
All editions of the Oracle8i / Oracle9i database (Enterprise, Standard, \par
Personal and Client software) support all editions of Windows 2000. However, \par
certain advanced features of the database may not be available on all Windows \par
2000 versions. Please note currently the same CD is used for Windows NT and \par
Windows 2000. \par

Min SP = Minimum Service Pack listed in the Oracle installation Guide. \par
\par
* Enterprise Manager Client and Enterprise Manager Management Server had not \par
been certified under Windows 2000 when 8.1.6 was released, they have now been \par
certified and are fully supported on Windows 2000. The Legato Media Manager \par
supplied on the 8.1.6 CD is also not certified for use on Windows 2000, \par
however LSM 5.7 has been released and is fully supported on Windows 2000. \par
\par
* Windows 2000 MultiLanguage Edition (MLE) was not available at the time \par
that 8.1.6 was released, this combination has been tested by Oracle Support \par
Services and appears to work correctly, but has not been certified by Oracle \par
Development. \par
\par
Oracle does not plan to provide certification or support for Oracle7, Oracle8 \par
or Oracle8i Release 8.1.5 on Windows 2000. \par
\par
\par
Windows 2000 Telnet Services Support \par
==================================== \par
\par
Windows 2000 introduces a new Telnet Service that allows remote users to log \par
on to the operating system and run console programs using the command line, \par
in the same way that they do on UNIX. Oracle does support the use of its \par
database command line utilities such as sqlplus, export, import and sqlldr \par
using this feature, but not its GUI tools. The release notes do not documented \par
that this is supported but Oracle product planning have indicated that this \par
is supported and bugs can be raised if customers encounter problems using this \par
environment. \par
\par
\par
Windows 2000 Terminal Services Support \par
====================================== \par
\par
The Microsoft Windows 2000 Terminal Server (Terminal Service) is a Windows \par
component that can be added to the server editions of Windows 2000 from the \par
"Add/Remove Programs" icon in Control Panel. It provides remote graphical \par
user interface (GUI) access to a server's desktop through terminal emulation \par
software, allowing multiple simultaneous client sessions to access and run \par
on the server. \par
\par
With Terminal Services, the terminal emulation software sends keystrokes \par
and mouse movements to the server. The Terminal server does all the data \par
manipulation locally and passes back the display. This approach allows remote \par
control of servers and centralized application management. \par
\par
The terminal emulation software supports the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) \par
and can run on two types of client hardware device : \par
\par
- PCs with the Terminal Services Client software installed or the newer \par
TSAC (Terminal Services Advanced Client) which is a Win32-based COM \par
object / control that can be used to run Terminal Services sessions \par
within Microsoft Internet Explorer or other applications. \par
\par
- Windows Powered thin clients which run the Windows Embedded family of \par
operating systems. These componentized operating systems enable device \par
manufacturers to embed the Terminal Server client protocols (RDP), \par
Internet Explorer, terminal emulators and simplified task-oriented user \par
interfaces into cost-effective devices. \par
\par
Oracle has only certified its products for access through PCs with the \par
Terminal Server Client software installed; access to Oracle products through \par
Windows Powered thin clients is not supported. \par
\par
The following section describes which Oracle Database Server versions are \par
supported when accessed from one of these clients. In general the Database \par
Server, Net8 / Net9 Server and client software are certified. Please check \par
the appropriate section below for additional information on unsupported \par
products : \par
\par
+---------------------------------------------------------------------+ \par
| Version | Windows 2000 Server / Advanced Server / Datacentre / MLE | \par
+----------+----------------------------------------------------------+ \par
| 9.2.0.x | Supported | \par
| 9.0.1.x | Supported | \par
| 8.1.7.x | Supported | \par
| 8.1.6.x | Not Supported | \par
+----------+----------------------------------------------------------+ \par
\par
Windows 2000 can be configured to support Terminal Services in : \par
\par
- Application Server Mode \par
- or Remote Administration Mode \par
\par
Where a release is listed as supported above, it supports both of these modes. \par
For information about support of Windows NT Terminal Server Edition please \par
refer to [NOTE:66397.1]. \par
\par
Unsupported 9.x.x Oracle Products under Windows 2000 Terminal Services \par
---------------------------------------------------------------------- \par
\par
Installation of Oracle9i server components from a remote Terminal Services \par
Client onto a Windows 2000 Terminal Server is unsupported. If you attempt \par
to install Oracle9i in this manner, many database configuration tools, such \par
as Oracle Data Migration, Oracle Database Configuration Assistant, Oracle \par
Internet Directory Configuration Assistant, and Oracle Workflow Configuration \par
Assistant, hang. Start all the configuration tools from the Terminal Server \par
console and not from the Terminal Services Client. \par
\par
The following products and features are also not supported on Windows Terminal \par
Servers: \par
\par
- Connection Manager \par
- Oracle Fail Safe \par
- Oracle HTTP Server \par
- Oracle Migration Workbench \par
- Oracle Names \par
- Oracle Object Link Manager \par
- Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction Server \par
- Server Management (SRVM) \par
\par
Unsupported 8.1.7 Oracle Products under Windows 2000 Terminal Services \par
---------------------------------------------------------------------- \par
\par
Installation of Oracle8i server components from a remote Terminal Services \par
Client onto a Windows NT 2000 Terminal Server is unsupported. If you attempt \par
to install Oracle8i in this manner, many database configuration tools, such \par
as Oracle Data Migration, Oracle Database Configuration Assistant, Oracle \par
Internet Directory Configuration Assistant, Net8 Configuration Assistant, and \par
Oracle Workflow Configuration Assistant, hang. Launch all the configuration \par
tools from the Terminal Server console and not from the Terminal Services \par
Client. \par
\par
The following components are also not supported : \par
\par
- Connecting through the Bequeath adapter \par
- Oracle Applications InterConnect \par
- Oracle Enterprise Manager \par
- Oracle FailSafe \par
- Oracle HTTP Server (powered by Apache) \par
- Oracle Intelligent Agent \par
- Oracle Message Broker \par
- Oracle Parallel Server utilities \par
- Oracle Object Link Manager and SETLINK.EXE \par
- Oracle Parallel Server Manager \par
- Oracle8i JDBC Drivers \par
\par
The original 8.1.7 release notes stated that the Oracle8 JDBC Drivers were \par
not supported they should have stated Oracle8i JDBC Drivers. \par
\par
Starting a Listener on Terminal Server \par
-------------------------------------- \par
\par
(Bug 1458669) The LSNRCTL START command does not return a prompt and hangs \par
when run from the Terminal Services Client. The listener service is started \par
but is unusable. A workaround is to start the listener service by using the \par
NET START command at the command prompt if the listener service is already \par
created. Note that the LSNRCTL START command works when run from the Terminal \par
Server console. \par
\par
Net8 Configuration Assistant hangs when trying to start the Net8 listener on \par
Microsoft Terminal Server. If this hang occurs during installation, exit Net8 \par
Configuration Assistant and start the listener service by using the NET START \par
command if the listener service is already created. \par
\par
\par
Oracle Parallel Server (OPS) / Real Application Clusters (RAC) \par
============================================================== \par
\par
Oracle Parallel Server / RAC will run on a variety of multiple node Windows \par
2000 Clusters running in a shared disk configuration. It does not require \par
Microsoft Cluster Server which is a shared nothing architecture available in \par
