Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> ORA-12514 : TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME
Have 4 instances set up on Linux/oracle box (Oracle 8.1.7, RH 7.3). On the linux box, i can start and connect to each instance ok via svrmgrl and sqlplus after setting the ORACLE_SID.
However, if I try and establish a entry in the tnsnames.ora file via netca I get ORA-12514 error. I have noticed that when I try and start netca I get an unknown host entry on the screen:
[oralce_at_tempus]netca
unknownhost tempus
unknownhost tempus
unknownhost tempus
Then the network configuration assistant starts up. I enter in the service name and host and hit test and get the ORA-12514 error.
This has come about since giving the linux box a fixed ip for our network. Previous to this I was able to make the connection via netca and hence also our windows network.
If i do a TNSPING i get tnsping-03505: failed to resolve host name.
any ideas?
