Restoring & recovering in NOARCHIVELOG

OK, I'm prepared to admit that it isn't the way to run a business

Taking on board the comments from you and Tanel, I set up a small database and tested it out. Provided I only recover one or more of the datafiles (ie keep the current control and log files) I can indeed recover work done since the backup was taken.
