Grid Computing is something like Seti, combining computer power and storage
across a network such as internet, or your lan/wan. Dynamic just means that
you can plug it in at any time. IBM is also on this, with web services
making a computer's cpu and storage available. I got this info from google.
That line on the URL you mention says it's about a database, so it's
probably in Oracle 10. The G would replace the i in 9i, going from internet
computing to grid computing.
I could imagine an Oracle database borrowing some additional processing
power from my workstation while it is in screensaver mode. why not use my
local hard drive too, if a web service on my pc tells the database that it
can spare some mb's. Should I need more space myself, I can always let my
web service find some additional space on a nearby pc. A background web
service, could later swap my own data back to my computer, for faster
access.
I might be going too far with this, though. It's just what popped up in my
mind after reading your message. Does anyone know the real story?
