Essentially, both the manual upgrade and using the dbua do the same
thing. With the manual process, you have more "control". With the dbua,
it is wizard driven and takes most of the guess work out of the picture.
One of the nice features of the dbua on Windows is that it will create
the new services for you. If you do the manual process, you'll have to
manually create new services with the ORADIM utility.
In either case, it is highly suggested that you read the Oracle 9i Migration Guide before you proceed. These questions and more are answered there.
