Licensing 101 states: no matter how much you have, you need more <g>

Over the years, Oracle has made available a lot of different licensing schemes. You need to know which scheme you currently have to be able to decide this. To do this properly, you need to discuss this with the Oracle rep or with the telesales folk.

The 2 current metrics are "CPU" and "Named User Plus". If you need to get more, I suspect you will need to convert to current metrics, but that could work in your favour especially since you get to review the support contract.

CPU metric is exactly that - 1 CPU/license and (was last time I looked) valid on any hardware, any OS, any vendor, totally transferrable.

Named User Plus is a real human or data collection device. (Oracle has a very nice document on http://www.oracle.com -> about Oracle -> licensing that goes into depth.)

There is no concurrent license any more, multiplexers and concentrators are ignored in all models anyway.

The internal processes are not counted.

The hosting fee is an interesting one ... again best discussed with the rep. Received on Wed Apr 30 2003 - 16:45:01 CDT
