Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Export from AIX/Ingres (4.6 ?) to Oracle
Hello everyone,
Today I did stumble into Ingres for the first time, when getting the task of
upgrading a application-database at a customer-site. The customer shall
move his database from an old version of Ingres (seems to be 6.4/04
according to a readme-fil I found) on Aix, to an Oracle 8i on Windows.
Is there any easy way to lift the data out of the ingres-database. I am not familiar with ingres or ingres-utilities, any pointers in the rigth directions would therefore be appreciated.
Assumes that a utility/script for moving it into ordinary text-files would be the easiest approach, since the unix machine does not have an oracle-client and the windows machines does not have ingres clients. An corresponding script for import at the oracle-side would be ideal, use of SQL*Loader from the flat files is probably more realistic.
Since this is a very old (early 90's) version of the application db I'm a bit uncertain about the schema, is there an easy way to get a "schema-dump" from ingres for use/assistance in creation of the corresponding oracle schema.
Cheers
Stein
