oracle 9i ODBC ADO 2.0 api

Hello all
I have a oracle 9.2.0.3.0 server on solaris, and I have tried to make a connection to it using ODBC which just hanges, if I use the ODBC to sybase or oracle 8i its fine, I don't know what is missing. Below is info which the code is using

The code uses the ADO 2.0 api which sits on top of ODBC. The basic API calls used are:

connection->OpenSchema
recordSet>Open
recordSet->GetFields

Any help would be great
