Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Oracle DB won't open automatically. help.
I am a beginner at Oracle. I had an older computer running with an Oracle
database. I recently got a newer computer and wanted to transfer my older
database to the new computer. I don't know how to properly backup and
restore Oracle database files.
I read somewhere that I could just shutdown my old oracle instance and copy all the database files from one computer to the other. I installed Oracle on my new computer and created an instance of a database with the same SID as what is on my old computer. Then I copied the old database files on top of it. I also copied the tnsnames.ora and all the other files in that network\admin directory.
I had to log into the database as "internal" and then tell the database to change from status "mounted" to status "open". After that, everything worked fine.
The only problem is that every time I reboot the database reverts back to status "mounted" and I have to go change it to status "open" before I can use it. How do I get the database to automatically open?
I thought that "oradim -edit -sid %ORACLE_SID% -startmode auto" would fix my problem but it did not.
I have searched the newsgroups and documentation for an answer to this and I can't find anything. Received on Thu Apr 10 2003 - 12:50:26 CDT
