Secondly, it's the 'x' that deletes a single character, not the 'dd'. Could explain some of your problems with vi ?

Thirdly, considering the (lack of) luck you've had implementing and using Oracle, may I suggest you don't try to renovate your home by yourself. You'll just end up running the sewage into the bath, installing the toilet in the middle of the kitchen, having the garage door at the rear of the house, the walls at weird and wobbly angles and the ceiling round your ankles !!
