Now, now: in its place, I'm sure it could have a use. I'm just not sure what that place is yet!

In a RAC, where freelist contention is horrendous, I imagine it might be worth a look. But, as Jonathan pointed out to me the other day, the index consequences can be awful, so best to have several extra tens of gigabytes of hard disk on hand. And pray you aren't doing full table scans.
