To answer your questions,

• I am running Oracle7 Server Release 7.3.4.0.0 - Production,
• the Form utilities ver 4.5.7.1.6 of Developer,
• it is an Intel chip set,
• I have defined the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID environment variables (although I may have done it wrong),
• I did follow the installation instructions ( as well as I could, considering it kept crashing),
• and lastly I am "installing obsolete software to access an archaic version of Oracle" for experimental, hobby type reasons.
