We need a little more information about how this installation is failing. I have installed 8.1.6, 8.1.7, 9iR1 and 9iR2 on PIII machines without a hiccup (a pity, how can you learn how to fix it if it won't break). Give us some specific error messages or conditions that you encountered during your installs.
