Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> half of my disk partition space disappears after installing oracle 8.1.7 Ent on NT 4.0
Hi,
please help me solve this, it's getting on my nerves by now.
I'm installing Oracle Enterprise 8.1.7 on my NT 4.0 SP5 128 bit encryption
(i've downloaded the setup files from the Oracle website)
The disk partition I'm using has 1.7 GB free and has just been formatted
(FAT), with no compresion. Thre's no other file on that partition.
After several attempts installing Oracle, I've decided to use the Minimal install, without configuring the starter database. Why? because I ran out of space when I chose the Typical setup (aprox 750 MB) and the starter database (additional 450Mb), and that's my main problem cause I have at least 400 Mb free afterwards (so I think!!!)
When I install the Minimal setup, before it starts copying the files, the installer says I have enough diskspace:
f:\ required 504 MB Available 1.76 GB
After installing, I get this from the partition properties
Capacity: 1.76 GB
Used space 1.2 GB
Free space 571 MB
Windows explorer says:
Size of Oracle directory: 655 Mb
So I'm missing at least 535 Mb on my partition. WHERE DID THEY GO? there's nothing else on that partition. No hidden or system files. I've scanned the hard disk and it's fine, no damaged sectors. Oracle works fine though, but where did all that space go?
any hints? It only happens with the Oracle installation, I've tried other software and it works fine.
