Ah, my apologies then!
OK, re-compiling is relatively painless - with a few minor problems such as remembering that UNIX is a case-sensitive file system, etc.
I suspect that if they are relying on Windows for their print routines, that this is the real reason that they don't want to support 9iAS on a UNIX platform.
