PLease Help Oracle Topology

Dear All,
i install Oracle8i server in stand alone win2000server and this server is a member of domain Win NT4. and i can't seem to connect to the local database or neither remotely

error : username or password is denied
error2: bind of request to LDAP server failed

I am very new to oracle server

also what are the main steps to take after installing oracle. i create listenner and create a new database. is there other steps that i have to do before i can connect to the database localy and remotely? how can i manage users that can access orcale server (add user, remove , changing password)?
i read somewhere there is a default password for oracle tools ? is it true? what is it?
